Your gums are very important aspects of your smile. In fact, they’re so important that if your gums are harmed, so is your entire oral health. So, it’s best to take great care of your gums, and our Waterview Dental Group team recommends doing so by doing the following things:

Brush: Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brushing will help remove the plaque that harms and irritates your gums. So, make sure to brush for at least two minutes each time.

Floss: Floss every crevice of your smile at least once a day. Flossing will also remove the plaque from your teeth and protect your gums. If you have a hard time flossing, try using waxed dental floss. The waxy coating will help you slip the strand between the teeth easier.

Rinse: Rinse your mouth once a day with a beneficial mouthwash. This will help kill the bacteria in your mouth that tend to harm the oral tissues.

Eat right: If you have a balanced diet, your gums will have a better chance at survival. If your teeth remain healthy, so do your gums. So, make sure to avoid sugary and acidic foods and drinks as much as possible.

Visit the dentist: Make sure to visit your dentist every six months for a dental checkup and cleaning. The treatment involved will eliminate the tartar that is infecting your gums and threatening to create gum disease.

If you do these things, there is a high chance your gums will stay in tip-top shape. For more information and details about how to care for your gums in Portland, Connecticut, please call our office today at 860-342-4141. Dr. Tae Chul Ho and our team are more than happy to help you!
